EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE FESTIVAL - MINI MAKER FAIRE

Re-make | Re-do | Re-wear is a project that gives clothing and textiles a new life through embellishment, re-design and re-construction.

This project will consist of a mini production line formed of designers and makers from Kalopsia.

The public will be asked to bring an object (a garment, bag, textile item etc) that they feel has lost its value/purpose. They will be asked to hand over the item to the 'service' and will in return be given a receipt while the item is being 'processed'. They will then come back to a transformed item; the Kalopsia team will be re-making the item, removing all labels and develop a new design and purpose for it.

This is to breath a new life and a new value to peoples unwanted textiles. This project is to promote ideas about circular economy and closed loop textiles design.

Nar·ra·tive

Noun Narrative can be a story or account of events, experiences – true or fictional. A narrative can be a book, literary and work that can contain a story. A creation of narrative by art, technique or a process.
Adjective Consisting of or being a narrative: a narrative poem. Pertaining to narration: narrative skill.

The exhibition will take place between November 25th and December 2nd as part of ‘Book Week Scotland’ 2013 at Ocean Terminal, Edinburgh
98 Ocean Dr
Edinburgh
EH6 6JJ

Kalopsia presents ‘Octavo Fika’ - an event featuring work by over 50 International and local book creators who have explored the idea of the Book and its Narrative, expressed through a wide range of illustrative media; drawing, wood work, book binding, poetry, textiles and much more.

Octavo Fika’ focuses on work that creates a sequence of words, texts and images that leads from one to another as a literal or an implied narration that emerges through the relationship of the previous to the following. This week-long event will hold book signings, workshops and talks presented in a relaxed exhibition environment together with a cup of tea (or coffee!).

"What is Textiles?"

This is an open submission for anyone!

WHAT IS TEXTILES? 1-year anniversary at Gallery17 in Edinburgh

A show that sees Textiles as a distinct artistic practice, that opens up the debate on “What is Textiles”.

What is Textiles to you? Is it the touch, the pattern, the movement, the sound, the smell, the process, the making, the feeling, the thinking, the colour, the history, the space, the touch…?

Kalopsia are looking for innovative and exciting work from different fields. We are looking for work that explores the idea and pushes the boundaries of what Textiles can be - letting Textiles have a space in the contemporary art scene.

The exhibition will take place at Gallery7teen October 17th - 23th
